In Spain, the dictator starts to fall. In 1968...

Franco was also impacted by 1968

Neither the dictatorship in Spain resisted to 1968! At that year, the dictator Francisco Franco completed his 29 "anniversary" of complete power in the country. During this period he smashed the opposition and controlled the country using the force. But in 1968 he "blinked", meaning that of the first time showed some kind of weakness: Franco recognized then the indepedence of Equatorial Guinea, against his will. United Nations forced him to do that.

So, for the first time in almost 30 years Francisco Franco showed that he could be forced to change his mind. And then started the process that put him out of the government. In the same 1968 he had to face strikes in Spain for the first time in decades. One year later, Franco designated Prince Juan Carlos de Borbón as his successor, showing for the first time that he could quit.

He resisted but fortunately with less and less strenght. In 1973 Francisco Franco had given up the function of prime minister and stayed "just" as commander in chief of the military forces. And died two years after, sick and with almost no power.

And it all started in 1968. As usual...
