1968 - A student was killed. The year of the Brazilian dictatorship was just beginning...

1968 in Brazil was the year in which the militar dictatorship showed its face. The militars were in the command since 1964 but until 1968 they were kind of "shamed" to show that they were running a real dictatorship.

But this "play" was over in 1968. Precisely it took plance in March 28th, when a group of students promoted a protest against the high prices of a restaurant that served food to them. One of these students was Edson Luís Lima de Souza, a guy who came from the North of the country to study in Rio de Janeiro.

The police did not like of the students movement at that day. The policeman thought that they were planning an invasion to the American Embassy in Rio, that was near the restaurant. This thought was wrong but had tragic consequences.

Edson Luís was inside the restaurant with some students when the policemen invaded the place. One of these policemen, called  Aloísio Raposo, shot Edson in the breast. The student died at that moment.

As a result of this action, a lot of protests took place all over the country. And the dictatorship started to show its real face.

This would become worse and worse till December, when militar power shut the Congress and started to arrest hundreds of people.

So, Brazil could know directly that 1968 was not a regular year. In this case, unfortunately.
